ReWalk Technology Offers Mobility for Spinal Cord Injury Patients

Many of our efforts for spinal cord injury patients are aimed at providing a practical and safe means to become more independent. One of the most innovative ways is through the evolving technology of robotics. With this in mind, we are excited to offer a ReWalk Clinic Day to our spinal cord injury patients who want an individual session with the ReWalk Exoskeleton. The purpose of the meeting will be for them to stand and take steps using the ReWalk.

What is the ReWalk?

The ReWalk 6.0 is the sixth generation personal robotic exoskeleton system. The system creates hip and knee movement, mimicking natural gait motions. It offers the patient an option to walk upright with the aid of bionic-powered leg attachments. Patients can learn to stand, walk, and turn. The ability to climb up and down stairs is not currently offered in the U.S. A wrist-mounted remote detects and enhances the user’s movements, thereby minimizing physical strain while maximizing control and safety. A small battery backpack powers the device.

How do I know if it is right for me?

If your hands and shoulders can support crutches or a walker, have no fractures, reasonable bone density and health, between 5’3” and 6’2” and under 220 pounds, you should contact our office.

Since ReWalk is the first exoskeleton to receive FDA clearance for personal and rehabilitation use in the United States, we are very excited to offer the opportunity for our patients to be able to try this technology.

While these treatments are still in their infancy, devices such as the ReWalk are gaining popularity. Not only do they provide patients with more natural options, but pave the way to rapid-pace improvements in movement and the sensation of movement.
