The Gift of Mobility
There are times when Touchstone Rehabilitation is fortunate enough to have the opportunity to give back to someone in our community. Many of our affiliations are with groups that provide for the needs of people who require assistance due to their mobility loss. We were recently offered the chance to be part of an extraordinary undertaking to give the gift of mobility to a young local girl.
The call
We periodically collaborate with Joni and Friends, a national and worldwide organization founded to help people with disabilities with their physical and spiritual wellbeing. The local Arizona chapter notified us of a young girl in need of a wheelchair. Joni and Friends finally located a donated wheelchair, but it required some modifications to fit our patient.
Touchstone worked together with Mike Myers, ATP from Numotion Phoenix, to fix and adjust the complex wheelchair so the girl could have safe transportation. In the process, the whole team fell in love with this sweet girl and her family.
Mobility
As a result of everyone donating their time and skills to the donated wheelchair, there was no cost to the family. Mom can now safely transport her daughter in the community versus carrying her to all medical appointments and therapies.
Dan and Touchstone have served with Joni and Friends for over 15 years through many of their disability services. Joni and Friends offers a variety of services for those interested in supporting or utilizing their ministry. Joni and Friends also offers Family and Military Retreats in Northern Arizona for those families dealing with a disability.
Giving back to the community
If you have a wheelchair that is not needed and you would like to donate it, you can receive a tax-deductible donation by contacting Joni and Friends Phoenix. The wheelchairs are refurbished and sent with mission teams worldwide to help those who can not afford a wheelchair.
